The GWK Park
The GWK park or the Garud Vishnu Kenchana Park is a huge park dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu and his vahan Garud, the king of the birds. This park hosts humongous statues of Garud and Vishnu, one of them being sitiated on a cliff top and can be seen from flights that pass over the region.
Rising from the rugged hills of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, the magnificent Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue stands watch over the island. The towering statue is Bali’s most iconic landmark and depicts the Hindu God Wisnu, atop his mount, the mythical eagle, Garuda. Soaring to a height of over 120 meters, this is one of the tallest monumental statues in the world, higher than both the Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer.
According to Hindu mythology, Garuda is a divine bird and the mount of Lord Vishnu. The bird is believed to have the ability to change its size and shape at will, and is revered for its strength and speed. The legend of Garuda and Vishnu is one of the most popular stories in Hindu mythology, and has been the subject of countless works of art and literature. The idea for the Garuda Wisnu Kencana sculpture was inspired by this myth, and was meant to serve as a symbol of Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and connection to Hinduism.
